Ancona Ducks
Listed by the USA Rare Breeds Conservancy as Critical. There are currently less than 500 Ancona
ducks in the USA, and we are one of less than 10 farms in the USA offering these beautiful and
enchanting ducks! Anconas come in several colors. We raise Black, Chocolate and Silver (mallard).
Our flock is mixed in color to ensure good variety. Anconas are closely related to Magpie ducks and
are of English descent. Easy to work with due to their calm and friendly nature, Anconas are perfect
dual purpose ducks for the homesteader. They lay up to 240 eggs per year, and clean out a
respectable 4-5 lb carcass.
Good Anconas should have many small spots over their entire body. As you can see on the
photo of one of our drakes, they have spotted feet and legs. Spots are also required on the
head/face. Just like pinto horses, no 2 Anconas are spotted alike. The ducklings are especially
adorable with their spots clearly defined in their fluffy down.
