Kennel Korner By Pam Abels This very moving poem was submitted to me by one of my favorite readers, my mother Carole. She thought I should share it with everyone. A Dog Sits Waiting by Kathy Flood A dog sits waiting in the cold autumn sun, too faithful to leave too frightened to run. He’s been here for days not, with nothing to do, but sit by the road just waiting for you. He can’t understand why you left him that day; He thought you and he were stopping to play. He’s sure you’ll come back, and that’s why he stays. How long will he suffer? How many days? His legs have grown weak; his throat parched and dry. He’s sick now from hunger and falls with a sigh. He lays down his head and closed his eyes. I wish you could see how a waiting dog dies… Unfortunately this happens more than people really want to admit. The sight of a creature once a loving pet for someone laying on the grown, nothing but bones and tufts of hair blowing in the wind. Please do not do this to those that you once loved. And if you already have, have you forgiven yourself… Fall is here and soon the snow will follow. Have you prepared your outdoor friends winter home yet? Dog houses with raised floors and stuffed with clean straw is the best solution. Don’t forget to add that nice door flap to keep the wind out and your pet is set for the winter. Also remember that extra food and warm water is needed to keep their body warm in the cold nights. Please visit them several times a day and if the weather gets “unfit for man nor beast bring the pet inside. Serious health issues or death can arise from exposure. Kids are bundled up so tight they look like little inflated stick figures, why not the family pet! Elsie and her two babies, Bessie and Reggie, came to stay with us in the hopes for a new home. We call Elsie and Bessie our Holstein cow cats. They truly are unusual. Little Reggie is the oddball with his puffy face and long fuzzy hair. This family was found by a resort owner under a cabin in a pit once used as a cooling pit of some sort. It took the owners several days to reach the starving family. They called us immediately because they were afraid they would die. The family is doing very well and would love to become a loyal and true friend. There is a saying I heard once that said; In ancient Egypt cats were worshiped as Gods. To this day they have never forgotten this. Call today to invite this Regal Royalty into your homes and be the envy of the town. We have several other kittens of all ages still waiting for homes too. Oliver said that he was sick and tired of waiting for someone to come and take him home. He asked me to let you know that although he is a young pup, he promises not to chew on too many shoes, not to chase the cat unless provoked, not to beg too much and when doing so he will use discretion, and he said that he will really try to take his bathroom necessities outdoors. In my opinion, what more can you ask! I do believe that he is serious about this and encourage you to call about Oliver. Kennel Korner By Pam Abels Help! We have 14 kittens that need homes…today. Our newest arrivals are three little half Siamese babies, one with lighter colored hair and two black ones all with blue eyes. The bundle of kittens shown in the picture this week is only one cage filled with these little delights. We also had 7 babies born to a mother that we took in as a stray. Lai Lah is the name we gave the mother. She has beautiful aqua eyes and is a longhaired beauty. She will have to stay here for another 5 weeks but will up for adoption then. She is a gorgeous cat. All her babies are unique. Elsie the “Holstein cat is still waiting for a good home. I have never seen such unique markings on a cat before. She would surely be a showstopper sitting on the back of your couch. At first she was thought to be a stray but we think that she may have been dumped once she got pregnant which is not unusual. She likes to be held and purrs into your ear with that calming melody cats can make. Elsie would make a very nice accent to a red or bluish couch, so if you have something that would compliment her, please call and maybe the two of you can form a life long bond. But wait, there’s more…every cat or kitten adopted with receive a free rabbit hair mouse filled with catnip to take to their new home! Boris the Guinea Pig found a very nice home but the very same day Natasha came. It seems the previous owners got tired of her so they brought her here. We still have Coco too. Both are extremely friendly and love to squeal when they want your attention. Tucker my dog is still keeping watch over them so please consider giving them a home before he makes me crazy. Honey is looking for a good home but she has some very specific needs. She has been working with Kasey, a volunteer, and others that are trying to teach Honey her manners. She obviously has never been taught anything by her past owners other than to run in circles on a chain. She so desperately wants to have a special friend to work with her that has lots of time and lots of strength. I swear that if she wanted, she could pull a covered wagon herself without breaking a sweat. She is a very strong dog that does not know her own strength. She is very sweet in temperament and only needs to be given a chance to prove herself. I believe in her, and I know that somewhere there is someone else that does too. One thing we noticed about her is that she learns very quickly and wants to please so badly. Honey would be a good dog for someone that does Skijoring or maybe to pull a sled. She needs a job that will challenge her and use her natural talents. She is a natural pointer and has a very gentle mouth so maybe someone might like to train her for hunting. The possibilities for her are endless if the right person would give her the chance. She gets excited sometimes and loosed her concentration on the task at hand but when re-directed she can proceed without troubles. I underestimated her strength the other day and after taking one step began to fly through the air. Honey meant no harm, she just got excited and I wasn’t planted to the ground good enough I guess. She came up to me worried I was angry but it was not something she did out of meanness, she just needs the proper training. I have faith in her and feel she would be a fun dog to own if given the proper training. I just love hugging her and rubbing her belly, it makes her so happy, something she probably hasn’t felt much of in her lifetime. Today is my oldest son Jeremy’s birthday, and I would like to thank him for all the great things he has done in his life, given me a wonderful granddaughter, helped with all the animals we have rescued and for having a kind and gentle heart. He helped me through my cancer treatment and makes me laugh even when I don’t feel like it. I am proud of him and hope all his wishes come true. Happy 26th Jeremy. Kennel Korner by Pam Abels Sometimes a small breed dog comes to stay at WhipStaff Ranch and Rescue. We have been able to keep a list of those wishing these little ones but now we find our list is depleted. We have one little guy here now that needs a home and one that will be coming into our rescue in a few days. ChiChi is a tiny little guy that needs extra loving and attention. ChiChi has been starved, kicked, hit, beaten and screamed at for most of his short little life so it’s very understandable why he is so nervous about making any mistakes, he shakes, trembles and whimpers. ChiChi has never known the kindness a hand can give, he does not understand that mistakes happen and it does not mean that he will be hit or kicked because of it. ChiChi has had such a sad, violent and unfair life that when I first told him he was a cutie, he tinkled on the floor. I picked him up carefully and caressed his tiny head and whispered softly to him, letting him know that never again will he have to fear hands, words will always be kind and love will take the chill he feels away. ChiChi wants to trust, love and truly show everyone that big things do come in little packages. For more information on ChiChi or to be placed on our small dog waiting list, please call today. I know that once his little face is featured here, he will be snatched up by just the right person. Fuzzy little Hunter was brought to our rescue when he was found on a dark stretch of road, cold from the pouring rain and covered in mud. He was so filthy poor Hunter was almost hit by a car. It would have been a shame to lose his life with no one to care, no one to call his own and before his life even had the chance to begin. He is about 8 weeks old, a blue eyed, fuzzy black and white spotted little boy that purrs so loud into your ear it echoes. Hunter has joined all the other cats and kittens we have here for adoption. Hunter has a slight eye infection but is being treated here. If its true that cats have 9 lives, I believe that Hunter has 8 left. Running around in the dark on a rainy night in the country is no place for kittens. Can he come stay with you? Sleek and elegant Wonton is a beautiful graceful Siamese cat that was brought here because she was hit by a van and it was not certain if she had a broken back or not. Fortunately for her it was only bruised and she recovered well enough to deliver her litter of three kittens. She is about 1 year old; her kittens are also up for adoption. She delivered one spotted Siamese colored kitten and two black colored. WhipStaff Ranch and Rescue would like to thank our special friends Alex (13) and his brother Tyler (11) Orozco for all the wonderful work they have been helping us with here. These two kids are the hardest workers we have ever seen, no job is too tough or too messy for them. They are so full of energy we have a hard time keeping up with them! Their mother Kristy drops them off for the day and they help get things done for the animals that live here…sometimes we hate to give them back. Thanks boys and Mom for helping us with our work here. You are definitely Angels for our little “throw-aways. Their family also does foster care for kittens that need socialization and special needs. They are an amazing family we are proud to call our friends. WhipStaff Ranch and Rescue is a family owned and operated rescue for animals of all types with funding coming out of our own pockets. Kennel Korner by Pam Abels Today I would like to introduce Cain. He is a very stunning purebred German Shepherd that was rescued with a little friend, which has already been adopted. Cain is 2 years old, beautiful at stance and likes kids. Cain and his little friend were abandoned when the family moved and neglected to take these wonderful animals, family pets. The neighbors discovered them, tied short chained to a dilapidated doghouse, no food or water. The original owners were shocked to find that the dogs had not died yet. Now is the time to adopt that wonderful German Shepherd you have always wanted. Cain has never seen horses, this we learned here but I am sure that he can be taught. Cain needs to have lots of attention, he has never been taught to sit, come to his name or simply to walk on a leash. He is gentle in nature and willing to learn. He is a great dog that makes a great family member, great guard dog and wonderful foot warmer. We have been working with him to give him back the confidence and dignity he lost when he was so mistreated and cast away to die. He is truly stunning and we will be select as usual when choosing a new owner. We strive to protect the animals from the abuse and neglect they came from and strive to ensure a permanent, loving, life-long, safe home. They deserve it. In the kitten world I have to tell you that there has been a lot of chatter. Dinky, we call him our little monster, has been heard gossiping about the other kittens that came here because they were found along a busy road. He was heard chanting something about the half-a-box they were found in. Elsie told him to mind his manners and behave himself but he ignored her and jumped down from the shelf in his pen, landing on the floor very loud just to wake up Lai Lah and her little babies. That’s when everything got interesting. Dinky raced around the pen and jumped into the mass of gray kittens that were thrown from a car, waking all of them and making poor Eli fall to the floor from the hammock. Eli has the habit of falling asleep and hanging on the edge of the hammock. This is Dinky’s favorite time, make a ruckus and Eli will teeter and fall. Eli got mad after falling into the litterbox and chased after Dinky who is much faster. Lai Lah and her babies were cheering on the other gray kittens as they tried to teach Dinky a final lesson. Elsie was disgusted to hear and see all the litter fly out of the box as Dinky spun and spun teasing his roommates. The little black kittens giggled as Dinky hit his head on the water bottle that they drink out of and ended up with a wet head. Dinky hates being wet. I heard the rest of the colony proclaim loudly, “Dinky, we hope you get adopted fast, or else! I think that Dinky is in trouble. Please call to save his life! We have numerous rabbits up for adoption too. All different colors and bred mixes. Please call if you are interested in this type of pet. Believe it or not, we also have two mixed bred ducks looking for a home. If you can provide them a home, please give us a call and we will let you know how you can become the owners of these beautiful ducks. We still have two Guinea Pigs available, a male and female. The male has shorter hair and “caterpillar stripes of black and orange. The female is tannish with swirls in her hair.
