Kennel Korner By Pam Abels WhipStaff Ranch and Rescue is in need of your help. We desperately need any good used collars, harnesses and leashes you might have sitting around your house. We are actually down to one collar that has been shifted from dog to dog for some time and its just getting difficult figuring out who’s turn it is to wear it! We really like to send a collar with each dog adopted even if the new family goes to buy a new one, so if you can help that would be wonderful. People call daily asking us if we could use cat, kitten, dog and puppy food or litter. YES. We can always use the help; anything you can donate is greatly appreciated. No one will every go hungry here but it’s always nice to have the extra help. We currently have 6 small dogs looking for homes. My house is beginning to look like Munchkin land and I have begun to call our little charges the Lollipop Kids! My personal house dogs are somewhat accepting of the numerous cats we have been housing in the dining room but with these little dogs, I seriously think that soon I will have a mutiny on my hands! Poor, poor Tucker has taken to wearing a helmet to pad his head when he falls over from exhaustion watching these little energetic creatures raise havoc in the dining room. They leave their toys all over and newspaper shreds are common lately. I once thought about putting carpet in the dining room but now I am glad I didn’t! Please call and save Tuckers head from further injury, he’s a good dog and I love him dearly. Little Hunter has now been cleared for adoption, if you remember he was the kitten found on a dirt road in the pouring rain. He was almost hit by a car because it was so dark out. Hunter developed an infection in his eyes and also a cold from being in the cold rain that night. He is happy and healthy and ready for adoption now. Dinky is still up to his old tricks, a nice family came to look at cats and they fell in love with Elsie the older cat that came to us with her two kittens. When they opened her cage and started to reach for her, Dinky loudly announced that Elsie was an old lady that was overweight so they should back away and think about taking him home. Elsie told him to mind his manners and she began to purr so loudly that the people could not resist her. They decided to take her home with them and as they walked out the door, she stuck her tongue out at him and grinned. The new white kittens laughed at him so loud that Dinky flew to the hammock to pout. I hope that Dinky gets a new home soon or the rest of the kittens might have to begin therapy. He claims he has no issues at all. P.S. Dinky told Eli that he is mad that Hunter got so much attention when he was not feeling well, in fact Dinky said that Hunter was probably faking to get sympathy and that he hated him. The two ducks are still here and I would like to remind you that Thanksgiving is coming and it might be nice to invite a duck to dinner. If you don’t really want a duck in the house, they love to play outside in puddles of water and announce when someone is coming to visit. Kennel Korner By Carolyn Van Wert I’d like to introduce you to several small breed dogs currently calling our ranch home. First is Armand. He is a 2 year old white toy poodle who was surrendered to us because his owner had too many dogs in the house. Armand is a very cuddly boy who would love to live in a home where he will be cherished and adored! Gigi and Sophia are 10 month old cream colored toy poodle sisters. They are beautiful girls, covered with adorable curls! They were surrendered to our rescue because they were the result of an “accidental litter, and their owner was not prepared to care for as many dogs as she had. Gigi is a bit taller than Sophia, otherwise they are identical! They are very happy and silly girls, and as an added bonus we have found they LOVE to be groomed. Marcell is a handsome black male toy poodle. He was rescued from a puppy mill. His breeder docked his tail wrong and he has no tail at all. He was surrendered by the mill owner when she came under scrutiny of law enforcement and humane officers. Understandably, Marcell is shy. He had little socialization as a puppy, yet he longs so much for a mom and dad to love, cuddle and adore him. He is just turning one year old. He had never even had a haircut until he was surrendered to us- his hair was over a foot long. He had a corded coat like a puli! He came through grooming good and even enjoyed his very first bath. We also have an adorable 4 month old Shih-Tzu puppy that is ready to go to her new forever home too! I know that whoever adopts this little girl is in for a treat! She is a delightful bundle of energy. It truly makes me exhausted to watch her play! I would like to say as well that if you are considering adopting a poodle, remember that they need regular professional grooming. They do not shed their coat and so it must be kept clipped. Clipping needs to be done at least every 8 weeks year round. They are good companions for those of us who have allergies due to their hypoallergenic coat, but they do require the additional commitment of grooming. Dinky the very mischievous kitten has been forced into “witness protection for his own good. Our other cattery residents began making threats against him. He woke up one morning in fact with a mouse head on his pillow. It was terrible! Dinky just scoffed and batted it at Hunter, who ducked. The mouse head smacked into Viktor, our newest rescue cat. Viktor was NOT amused. He hissed and swore at Dinky, vowing to get even with him. We decided it was in Dinky’s best interest to go into hiding and make a new life. He chose to be a singer in Las Vegas. We tried to explain to Dinky that it simply was not an option but he won’t listen and has been wearing his new Elvis costume for the last several days. Dinky told us that none of the other cats recognize him when he is dressed like Elvis. I’m not sure that he is right, but I don’t want Dinky to start playing his tricks on me so I just agree with him! What do you think? Wouldn’t you like to bring this little star into your lives? Our website has been fully updated. I got several emails this last week with our readers who could not access it, and I sincerely apologize for that. We are working on a new, fully functional site that we hope to unveil in a few weeks. For now, please check out our rescue at www.geocities.com/whipstaff_rescue. Kennel Korner by Pam Abels WhipStaff Ranch & Rescue has some exciting news. We were invited by Petfinder to join their service! This will enable our “throw-a-ways to be viewed and adopted by good homes across the United States. We are so excited about this new avenue of finding excellent homes, and have already found several homes for our wonderful animals. Lai Lah the mother cat has now weaned her litter of kittens and is expected to move to California in the next week or so. Little Wonton, the Siamese cat that was hit by a van will be moving to the Twin Cities to live with a lady that said she has been looking for a cat just like her for years. A wonderful lady and her son adopted Marcell, the black colored Poodle after finding him on Petfinder. All these great homes in just a few days. I can feel an exciting future for any pet finding their way to our Ranch. Petfinder now has a great offer, if you go to their website and register that you adopted a pet from us, they will give you one month free vet services. If you are interested in this offer, log onto their web page at www.Petfinder.com to find out more and how this can be used. While you are there, check out all the pets we have here, waiting for your call! WhipStaff Ranch would like to thank some very special people for their help here working with the animals to make them more comfortable and ready for winter. Holly Hesch and her daughters Aria (10) and Lilyian (4) have come out several times to help feed the rabbits and play with the kittens. Holly said that Aria was very interested in helping animals and protecting them. Aria is always on the lookout for any animal that has been dumped, abused or neglected so she can rescue them and find them a good home. We believe that when children have these excellent values; they will become productive adults with compassionate hearts. Thanks girls! Wanda Whitcomb, a lady that adopted two cats not too long ago appeared at our Ranch with new collars, leaches, dog and cat food. She said that she wanted to help out somehow. Wanda told me that she worked extra hours to get some of the supplies we needed for the animals. This to us was a selfless act that should not go unmentioned. Thank you all for being such good friends to the animals and also to us. Today I would like to introduce you to Woofy. He is a 6-7 week old male German Sheppard/Chow mix pup. Woofy is a fluffy cuddly little guy that is almost housebroken. He loves to play and is quite often found trying to drag our other dogs around by their ankles. Little Maisie (pictured) and her two brothers Miles and Manny are anxiously waiting for a new home. They are about 10 weeks old now but had a very bad start in life. They had been found in half a box along a major highway, wondering around very confused. Someone dumped them there, probably hoping they would die. When they got here, their feces contained only whole corn, probably from the field near the spot where they were dumped. They all caught bad colds while out in the cold and had to be on medication for some time but are all healthy and happy now. Maisie and Manny have long hair while Miles has the shorter hair. They purr so loud in your ear when held it could knock your eardrums out! Dinky’s cover was blown last Saturday evening when he forgot to tie his Elvis cape properly causing it to slip into the kitty litter. Viktor screamed in his Russian accent that Dinky was a fake while the little gray kittens grabbed the cape and began to race all over their cage with it playing keep away with Dinky. Hunter started to laugh so hard that he fell out of the hammock and Manny pounced on top of Hunter causing a fuss in their cage. Dinky waited until everyone was done with their teasing and began to terrorize Viktor by reaching into his cage from underneath, grabbing his behind and raking his tail with his nails. Viktor kept looking back to see who was touching him and Dinky would be sitting in the corner looking up at the ceiling as if he had no idea what was going on. As Dinky was reaching out one more time, Eli fell out of the hammock again and hit the litterbox. Viktor jumped up, startled, stepping on Dinky’s paw, which made him scream out from shock. Over the last few days, Dinky has been seen sitting in the hammock pouting and knocking anyone that tries to get in with him out onto the floor. Once I am sure I heard someone call him a pouty pants. Poor Dinky (kind of). WhipStaff Ranch and Rescue is a family owned and operated rescue for animals of all types with funding coming out of our own pockets. Kennel Korner WhipStaff Ranch and Rescue is proud to be a Homes 4 The Holidays adoption drive organization! Since the drive began in San Diego in 1999 Home 4 the Holidays shelters have completed 878,000 adoptions worldwide. This year is the sixth adoption drive. We are just one of over 1,800 animal shelters and pet rescue groups who have "joined paws" with Home 4 The Holidays sponsors, The Helen Woodward Animal Center and The Iams Company to find homes for orphaned pets. As part of our Homes 4 The Holidays celebrations we will be offering various adoption incentives which are announced each week on our website. We would like to announce that we have a brand new website! www.whipstaff-ranch.com is our new home in cyberspace. We had many problems with our last server, much to our dismay and to the many people having problems accessing it. If you have our other site bookmarked, be sure to update it. You’ll find a wealth of information about our ranch and our rescue- including how we picked our name! You would not believe the number of people who ask where the name WhipStaff Ranch came from. I won’t spoil it, just take a peek and see for yourself! A very special thanks is in order for Bonnie and Shereen who came out to visit our rescue animals and came toting much needed kitten food, dog food, dog collars and leashes! It was so nice visiting with you, and the animals appreciate your generosity as well. Mike and his family brought over kitty litter and 2 big bags of cat food. Mike brought home little Maisie on Saturday after seeing her in the Buy-Line. Every little bit helps and every bag of supplies helps another animal on the road to recovery. Thank you, thank you! We have some new orphans who would love to go to a loving home. Tiki is a special cat that just needs a quiet retirement home. Tiki is 9 years old, spayed and declawed. She was going to be abandoned and was rescued by a caring family who couldn’t see her dumped. Tiki went to stay with a special lady but it just did not work out. Do you have room in your heart and home for a quiet older girl? She promises not to jump on the counter or swing from the ceiling fan like a kitten; she’d rather snuggle in bed at night! Muggles is a chocolate lab/rat terrier mix puppy, about 4 months old. Muggles will probably mature to be about 30-35 pounds. He is a nice dog that was just too much puppy for his owners and their elderly little dog to handle. He has youthful exuberance and loves to run and play! Muggles is a beautiful rich chocolate brown with white markings on his legs, chest and belly. When he was lying upside down sleeping someone made the comment he looks like a cup of cocoa with marshmallows floating on top, and he does! Muggles is very smart, but he can be nervous in a new situation. He is the kind of dog that loves companionship. He is also totally housebroken, and will sleep in a crate when he can’t be with you. Dinky has gotten desperate. He has been caught running his food dish back and forth along the bars of his cage and meowing loudly. He sleeps a lot, complains about the food, and keeps asking for a photo of a pin-up kitten to paste on his wall. The other kittens are refusing to talk to him. Honestly we can’t afford a pet psychic to talk to Dinky and discover the roots of his deep-seated issues against authority. Perhaps a change of scenery would do him- and his cagemates- a world of good? Please, lets not let this young boy’s life go to waste- be a hero and give Dinky a chance! Tiki, Muggles, Dinky and many friends are waiting here for their new families to scoop them up and love them forever. We get new rescue animals every week, and many go home too. Be sure to check our website at www.whipstaff-ranch.com or www.petfinder.com every day and you’ll find just the right one (or 2!) for your family. Kennel Korner by Pam Abels WhipStaff Ranch would like to extend our deepest sympathies to the family of Marilyn Shutter who recently passed away. Ms. Shutter was not only a noted businesswoman but a Godsend to all the kids she encouraged through her work at the Beltrami Fair Grounds. If it were not for her, numerous children would not have had the educational learning experiences through 4H. She made the kids want to succeed; she encouraged them to be accountable for their work and inspired many to go on into new avenues of study. Marilyn encouraged people that knew her to believe in their dreams and always had a kind smile to offer anyone that talked with her. She always seemed to know just the right thing to say at any given moment. Because of the encouragement of Ms. Shutter, my children participated in the 4H program for many years, learning to love and respect animals, to meet new people and volunteerism. I as a parent thank her for the valuable lessons she taught everyone. The loss of Marilyn Shutter will be felt for many years to come, and the stories of her kindness, spirit and will to help others will live on forever. She was a person that you needed to meet in this hectic world if not to just assure us that good does exist. She will be sorrowfully missed. WhipStaff Ranch & Rescue has been busy with adoptions because of our listings on Petfinder and our new website. We thank all those that have taken in one or more of our little “throw-aways, but as one family stated, “we found a new member of our family here. Perhaps you too can find a family companion for your household by checking out either the web page or Petfinder. We are striving to find homes for all our residents during this holiday season. Please help us achieve this goal. More need our help. Dinky has left the building. With tears of joy for the sweet little guy, he left with his new parents to a wonderful home with another little active kitten such as himself. I am sure he feels like he has gone to heaven. Now another problem has arisen. Rain, the white kitten that Dinky had befriended has shown us that Dinky left a little of himself behind. Rain has now taken to “cat calling Lai Lah’s girls and making rude remarks to Tiki, the older cat, something about her weight or laziness, he whispered so low it was hard to hear. Viktor, the Russian Blue, said that if this started up again, he was going to use some old fashion justice on Rain. He seemed serious so we moved Rain over more because Viktor was tired of Rain waking him up all the time. Now Rain has taken to continuously singing 99 glowing bulbs on the tree, 99 glowing bulbs, and everyone is about ready to scream. Rain said that being a stinker helped get Dinky a home; he was going to be worse than him! Please help us keep our sanity! Rain is a beautiful all white kitten, about 4 months old now, with gorgeous green eyes, and apparently knows the words to annoying songs which he will sing until he gets his way. Please call today! Muggles the Choc. Lab mix now has a kennel mate called Teto, a black lab mix. Both boys are about 3 ½ months old. Muggles is current on his shots and Teto has had his first puppy shot and de-worming. Muggles is housebroken and loves to cuddle. Teto loves to play with you and is willing to learn whatever you are willing to teach him. He loves to catch balls and would love to play ball with a family all his own.
