Kennel Korner by Pam Abels Hot! Hot! Hot! Please remember to keep the water dishes of all your pets full of clean water during these hot spells. I find myself going though numerous glasses of iced tea so every time I fill my glass, I do a quick check of all the water dishes here at our house. The way I figure it is that I can get as many glasses as I like but all the animals can’t. My little dog, Toula (the boss here) always lets me know when the dish is getting low, Toula likes to carry it in where I might be and bounce the bowl around a bit telling me to pay attention! As I have stated in past articles, we take in all different kinds of animals when the room allows. Today I would like to introduce you to a friendly little soul we now call Daisy. Daisy is about 1 ½ years old, spayed and trained to a litterbox. She was passed to several owners before us because these little creatures need special attention and sometimes its kinder to find someone that has the time to devote to them than let them sit in a cage alone. She was in good health and condition when she came to stay here, playful and quite the character. Daisy is a little girl Ferret that needs a good home where she will be played with, given baths, toys and love. Are you looking for a special friend, then perhaps you should come and see Daisy. She is adorable. I am told that she is a cinnamon color. I would like to thank the previous owners for caring enough about Daisy to ask for help in finding her a new home. As people’s minds return to winter, school and the end of vacations, sometimes other animals are in need of new homes. We are currently home to several mixed breed rabbits that have made their way here. Rabbits are easy to litterbox train if you want them to live in the home, are easy to train, easy to feed and love to cuddle just like a kitten. We have rabbits to pull out of hats, rabbits to walk on a leash, rabbits to guard your home, perfect apartment pets because they do not bark, their do-do does not smell so it can be placed right into your houseplants to make them grow better naturally. Just imagine snuggling in bed with your very own velveteen rabbit…that hops without batteries! Arlo is still waiting for a good home. He is the perfect dog. Just think, it’s a cold winter day, your snowed in and cuddled on the couch trying to shake the chill in the air, then along comes Arlo. He snuggles close to you and places his warm nose on your lap, there, it warms you to the bone and you both doze off while listening to the weatherman count the inches of snow coming down. Well, you have the couch, the TV. but Arlo is still here. He comes with his own package of microwave popcorn to share. Ginger and the three kittens are still here too. Please call to give these special animals a good home. They are all litterbox trained. More animals are waiting for our help but we have very limited space. Please call if you can help by providing a good home for those still here. Kennel Korner By Pam Abels A fellow animal lover has made a very special request of WhipStaff Ranch & Rescue; hopefully there will be someone out there that can help her. We have been asked to help place two young puppies, 6 months old. Their mother was adopted but became sick within a short time. The owner took her to the vet and it was discovered that she was pregnant. Soon after she delivered six babies. The mother died 4 weeks later from pneumonia. Mary, our friend, took two of the puppies to help her friend out with placement. Since then, the pups, Snoopy & Fudge have been raised in a good family environment on a small farm. The pups have shown the owners that they cannot be around chickens or rabbits but would make good dogs for a family with small kids and large animals such as horses, sheep and perhaps goats. These pups are 6 months old, Lab/Boarder Collie and perhaps a bit of husky mixed. They are sweet and gentle little guys. Mary is keeping them at her home until a good home can be found because we are full at this time. She has graciously agreed to accept calls at her home about Snoopy and Fudge. She can be reached at 467-3559. Please help her find good homes for these really great pups. They are both gorgeous! We are still in need of homes for some really good mousers. We have two kittens that are 11 weeks old and two that are 16 weeks old. We have had so many requests for us to take in more cats but until these find good homes we cannot accept any more at this time. We are always asked if we could use help and kitten food and dog food seem to be the most needed here. If you have an extra bag sitting around, we would love to accept it! Ginger the spayed cat and several mixed breed rabbits are also awaiting a new home. It seems that everyone is thinking of winter just around the corner so please consider these little creatures for your home setting or barn. All the cats are litterbox trained. We are also going to be receiving several different breeds of small puppies and dogs in the near future. If you are looking for a small breed dog, please call and let us know just what you are interested in. Just last night a small terrier mix, 3 month old pup was surrendered to us because it was found coming out of a swamp, filthy and starving. She is in good shape now, was given a bath and fed well by the people that found her. She received her first set of shots and was dewormed here. If you are interested in “CC or any other type of small breed dog, call today to find out what we have or be placed on our “wish list. Like we always say, you never know what will show up on our doorstep. I would also like to thank all those that have called with their support and donated to our rescue. Your words of encouragement have really helped, and your kind donations have been put to good use. Thank you so much for your prayers and friendships. Please consider adopting a deserving pet that needs your love more than anything else in the world. The feeling is great, believe me. Kennel Korner By Pam Abels Every day at WhipStaff Ranch and Rescue is busy. Answering the phone and assisting callers with any number of questions and requests, paperwork, emails to answer and photos to take. Not to mention the chores that must be done, cleaning kennels, raking yards, and interacting with our rescued pets take up many hours of every day. But it is all worth the hard work when we see a little soul happily wagging their tail as their new owner brings them home! Every weekend is filled with hope for new homes, and it is wonderful to talk with our many visitors who love animals as much as we do. Bless you all! I would like to introduce 2 very special residents of our rescue. A true Angel of the animals rescued Polly and Little Ida. She found these girls abandoned at a garbage dumpster, starving, and so ravaged by mange that they were totally bald. They survived the night and began their rehabilitation in their Angel’s loving hands. They received many doses of medicine to cure their mange. Their new hair started growing in, sparse at first but then thick and glossy. Their ribs filled in and their hipbones disappeared under a layer of muscle and fat. Polly and Little Ida, it soon became apparent, are German shepherd puppies- victims of owners who literally threw them away. Polly is now about 3 months old, and is a dark faced princess. She is learning leash manners and is very sweet. Little Ida is about 2 months old, and is a delicate little flower. She loves nothing more than snuggling close in your lap. Please be aware that these girls are survivors, and deserve only the most luxurious of homes. A frantic phone call led to 7 little souls rescued from a road. Someone threw 7 baby kittens, about 6 weeks old, onto a busy road. They were found and saved by a kind person who called us desperate for help. Of course we made room for these babies who had been thrown away- and they are now ready to come live with you. They are all beautiful tiger striped, black tiger and gray tiger, boys and girls. We also have 3 teenage kittens that can’t wait to go to a loving home. Egypt is a striking dark tabby girl, Louise is a glittering tiger. Special needs kitty Cesar is back due to his new owner’s unexpected health issues. This beautiful marmalade gentleman is waiting for just the right loving arms to come whisk him home. Come visit and choose a companion for life! Fudge, the 6-month-old chocolate colored border collie/Labrador puppy is still looking for a home of his own! He is not good with poultry, but loves children. Please contact Mary at 467-3559 for more info on Fudge. Kennel Korner By Pam Abels It is certainly an adventure here at WhipStaff Ranch & Rescue. On a daily basis the calls come in with different problems ranging from needing advice on how to catch domestic rabbits that have gotten loose to people notifying us when a deer is found dead on a road. We do try with all our might to help those that call by either giving them suggestions on how to take care of their problems, ways to remedy a problem and who might be the correct people to notify in certain situations. We do our best but sometimes it may not seem enough to those calling. We run our little rescue out of our home in the country. We do not have a shelter. We have the cat cages in my dining room and puppies and dogs are kept outside in kennels when they are available. Medication, food, toys and any other need comes from our own pockets (which can be pretty empty at times). Sometimes people have given us donations to help and we greatly appreciate this. The animals that we take in are mostly the extreme cases. Animals that are victims of abuse, neglect or cruelty are our first priority. Check our website for our past resident’s stories. It is difficult for us to turn any animal away but sometimes one comes along that needs long term care and we jump in perhaps taking time, energy and resources away from a family pet waiting to come here for a second chance. We have many friends that also do rescue work, much like we do and we try to support each other’s needs. Because of the good people that call and come adopt a new friend we are quite happy knowing we are doing a good job. Our prayer is that more good people will come see the little ones we have here waiting for a new home. CC, Polly and Little Ida are still waiting for new homes where they will never be abandoned and left to die a horrible death, alone. CC, a 3-month-old pup, was found by some caring people that bathed her wounds, fed her good meals and then called us. We suspect she may have been used as a bait dog for dog fighting. She is a wonderful spirit, full of fun and has a tail that wags a mile a minute. Polly and Little Ida were discovered at a dumpsite, too young to be away from their mother. They were left there to die of starvation and mange. An Angel found them, lovingly treated their mange and fed them until they were ready to move on to a new home. She gave us Polly and Little Ida because she had been given two other little guys that were also in the same situation and she knew that we would find them the best home ever. Little Ida and Polly are German Shepherd pups, Ida is about 2 months and Polly is about 3 months. Please call and ask for these little girls if you are willing to give only the best home to them. You must protect them for the rest of their lives and in turn they will be loving, loyal companions. We also have 3 older kittens that are in need of a good home, 2 are about 3 months and the other is 4 months now. We received a call from a lady that had found 7 kittens that were thrown out of a car window onto the road. They came here a week ago and are now ready for a wonderful home of their own. They are now 5 weeks old. Ginger is still waiting to hear from someone that would like to have an older spayed cat as a mouser. Kennel Korner By Carolyn Van Wert Things sure have been busy here at WhipStaff Ranch and Rescue this last week! Several residents have found loving homes. Polly the German shepherd puppy now has a family to call her own! Egypt, as well as 3 of the kittens that were tossed out a car window like garbage are now beloved members of a family, where they belong. Our lonely little ferret Sadie now has a new friend. What’s especially nice is that for every little soul that goes into a loving family it makes room for one more creature that has been thrown away. We have quite a few calls each day concerning pets that need placement, and while we can only take a few at a time we hope that our efforts are appreciated. Every smile of people who make the lifelong commitment to a pet and choose to adopt from our farm makes up for the long hours and hard work we put into each little creature. And while we know we can’t save them all, we can sure make a difference in the ones we do take in! Of course we have new residents as well! Nicolas is a very special and lucky kitty. Nicolas was a tiny stray kitten who found his way into a car engine this spring, huddling against it for warmth. When the engine started… the tortured screams of a kitten were heard. Nicolas was rushed to the vet, near death from his injuries. Miraculously, from the excellent care he received and his doting “nurse he survived. He is an ebony black beauty, with the most gorgeous eyes you will ever see. One eye was injured, but healed with no problems. An amazing thing happened though- the injured eye turned a different color. He has one green eye, and his injured one turned a rich amber color. It truly is striking. He is the most affectionate, loving purr-baby we have ever had, as soon as he is held he is hugging you around the neck. Nicolas deserves the best of homes. Do you think that you would be able to give Nicolas the life he needs? Then call, and do it quickly! This 6-month-old baby will be gone in a flash. Rest assured we have a good selection of other kittens waiting for homes if Nicolas has been adopted when you call. And now for something completely different- our rescue has gone to the pigs- guinea pigs, that is! We were contacted to take 5 guinea pigs who needed better living arrangements. All are boys, and 2 of them, Boaris and Porky are ready to go. Boaris is a black, tan and white piggy, and Porky is a snowy white porcine with dark eyes, dark ears and feet. He reminds us of a Siamese cat. The other 3 will be ready once they are back up to proper weight and health status. Guinea pigs are easy to care for and make good pets. They bond with their owners and once socialized love attention. Give us a call to come visit Boaris and Porky and rest of these pint-sized porkers. Don’t forget, Little Ida and CC, are still waiting for their angels to come adopt them! If you are in need of a faithful friend, either of these deserving puppies will do just fine.
