Muscovy Ducks
The only domestic duck not descended from the mallard!  Muscovy ducks are also called Red-Head ducks due to the red warty growths
called caruncles that grow on the face of the ducks.  Muscovy ducks are non-greasy and their meat tastes like the finest lean beef.  In fact,
Muscovy duck is a delicacy and commands a high price in rest
aurants!

We love our Muscovies for their practicality.  They are predator resistant- Muscovies have been known to fight off owls, hawks, fox and
dogs.  They have long sharp claws, a toothy bill and are formidable when nesting. They also have a crest like a cockatoo that they raise
when stressed or ready to fight. They are also the most comical of ducks!  Drakes make only a slight hissing noise, hens a soft quack.
They do much communicating by bobbing their heads and wagging their tails. Muscovies become very tame with handling, in fact ours
follow me around the yard talking and wagging til I give them treats.  Muscovy hens fly very well, drakes have a harder time due to their
size.  They roost in trees at night- so be sure to give them a perch in the coop!  They grub for their own food very well, and thrive on a
minimum of grain in the summer months.  They are excellent woodtick patrols, love slugs and snails and will kill snakes and mice.   They
will raise several litters of babies a year, average 15-20 babies at a time.

Our hens average 9 lbs, drakes up to 20.  We raise black, chocolate, blue ripple, white and pied in a large mixed flock.  We have bred
our ducks with production of large meaty breasts and fast growth in mind.
